Right to Information
Queensland will become the most open and accountable government in Australia, under new Right to Information laws.
Current Freedom of Information (FOI) laws are being overhauled to give people greater accessibility to information and provide greater transparency and accountability.
Two new Bills - the Right to Information Bill and the Information Privacy Bill - will:
- make more information readily available,
- provide equal access to information for everyone,
- protect individuals' privacy.

Freedom of Information reform
On 20 August 2008, Premier Anna Bligh announced an overhaul of Queensland’s Freedom of information laws.
The announcement followed a Cabinet decision in September 2007 to review the existing system in Queensland. Former chair of the Electoral and Administrative Review Committee, Dr David Solomon AM, was appointed to chair a three-member independent panel that provided recommendations to the government.
Queensland's Freedom of Information Act review
The Freedom of Information Independent Review Panel was established on 17 September 2007 to review Queensland’s Freedom of Information laws.
The three-member panel was chaired by former chair of the Electoral and Administrative Review Committee Dr David Solomon AM.
Response to Queensland's Freedom of Information Act review
The Right to Information Report was delivered by Dr Solomon to the Queensland Government on 10 June, 2008.
The report proposed a complete rethink of the way we store, manage and release information.
The government's response, The right to information – A response to the review of Queensland’s Freedom of Information Act – is a revamp of existing laws.
